Useful Information

Local currency:

Bulgarian Lev, although the Euro is becoming increasingly acceptable. To convert from Sterling or Euros (not well used ones), use a town centre bank. The one at the gondola station gives a (predictably) poor rate. Travellers' cheques are subject to a heavy commission and credit cards are only accepted at the bigger outlets. (You can buy your liftpass with one, but NOT your ski lessons). ATM's are available in the resort for use with both Maestro & credit cards, but beware that a computer glitch prevented Maestro cards from working in 2006, from any banks.

Airport Transfers

An alternative to pre-arranged taxis is the Sofia / Bansko shuttle bus option: http://www.banskoexpress.com/

"Bansko Express works as a booking agent which gets holiday makers from the same flights and transports them between Sofia Airport and Bansko in one vehicle. Depending on the number of bookings the vehicles used are cars, 8 seater shuttle buses and mini-buses. If you are the only booking for your flight then it would be like a private taxi transfer at a much cheaper price."

This is a company that we have not used as yet, but may well try out in the future.
